Representatives of Ukraine and the UAE discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the "green" energy
The State Energy Efficiency of Ukraine and the UAE Embassy in Ukraine considered areas of cooperation between the two countries in the "green" energy. This was discussed at the meeting of the acting Chairman of the State Energy Efficiency Committee Konstantin Gura and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UAE to Ukraine Salem Ahmed Al-Kaaba.
The talks took place in light of the recent official visit of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the United Arab Emirates in February this year.
“Ukraine appreciates partnership with such a powerful power as the United Arab Emirates. Mutually beneficial areas for joint work are "green" energy, decarbonization and energy efficiency ", - said at the beginning of the meeting K. Goura.
According to the Communications and Public Relations Department of the State Energy Efficiency Agency, the agency is already developing a partnership with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Industry within the framework of the signed Memorandum in 2017.
The world famous International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is based in Abu Dhabi (UAE), which Ukraine joined in 2018.
The agency also has a productive experience of cooperation with IRENA experts in the development of "green" auctions, organization of joint international conferences on renewable energy. Every year the Ukrainian delegation takes part in the meetings of the IRENA Assembly.
“Modern global changes require countries to mobilize more and more efforts for sustainable development and a green transition. Ukraine also chose this path. In these areas, we have a number of legislative initiatives, as well as financial instruments have been developed - green bonds, the Decarbonization Fund, the Green Investment Fund, UAMAP - a map of investment potential projects ”, - K.Gura said.
In turn, Ambassador Salem Ahmed Al-Kaaba noted the need to strengthen partnerships and exchange experiences for potential mutually beneficial projects and investments.
As you know, the UAE is known for its significant resources of oil and gas, but this state also develops "clean" energy. Thus, the goal of the UAE Energy Strategy by 2050 is to achieve at least 44% of "clean" energy in the energy balance.
It is in the UAE that a well-known and unique project is being implemented - the construction of the city of Masdar. It is one of the most sustainable cities in the world, where innovative solutions are applied to efficiently use energy resources, water, and waste disposal.
Summing up, the parties agreed on:
- the importance of continuing cooperation with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Industry;
- presentations to the UAE business environment of potential green energy and energy efficiency investment projects;
- to consider the possibility of participation of business and UAE funds in the creation of the Green Investment Fund in Ukraine.
