Okean shipyard restores dry dock performance
At the Okean Shipyard, work has begun on the creation of a new dry dock shutter. reports press - enterprise service. The new valve consists of eight sections, each weighing about 100 tons. More than 800 tons of steel will be used in total to create a shutter design that will provide a reliable overlap of the chamber and the possibility of regular use of the dry dock.
Okeana dry dock is one of the largest in Europe and today the only one available in Ukraine. It is 355 meters long, 60 meters wide, and 17.1 meters deep. The pre-dock site has an area of 35 thousand square meters. The dry dock is equipped with two gantry cranes with a lifting capacity of 320 tons each and four erection cranes of 80 tons each.
The restoration of dry dock performance enables the Ocean Shipyard both to accept large-capacity vessels for repairs and to implement unique shipbuilding programs.
The Ocean Plant is rising from its knees after crushing crises. In December 2018, Okean was sold at an auction for 122.2 million hryvnia to LLC Trading House Annona. Vasily and Nikolai Kapatsyna became the owners of Okean. Since 2019, the plant has been loaded with the most complex orders for the manufacture of metal structures for bridges, overpasses and the needs of the mining and processing industry.
In December 2020, the Okean Shipyard signed a memorandum with the State Defense Concern of the Republic of Turkey on joint activities to implement a project to build a series of corvette-class ships for the Ukrainian Naval Forces.
