President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ArcelorMittal.
The parties discussed the development of "green" metallurgy and increased investment in Ukraine, taking into account environmental characteristics in accordance with international standards.
The President noted the need to introduce the latest steelmaking technologies that will reduce the negative impact of industry on the environment.
The company, as the largest foreign investor in Ukraine and one of the largest steel producers in the world, is launching the Steel Billion investment program, which provides for investments of almost one billion dollars in the environmental modernization of steel production in Kryvyi Rih.
"Investments in the Ukrainian economy and the environment are a positive signal for all investors, to whom we will provide comprehensive support," assured Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The President noted the need for an early completion of the modernization of coke-chemical, agglomeration and blast-furnace production, which are the largest pollutants. The company confirmed its readiness to complete this program by the end of 2023.
The meeting was also attended by First Assistant to the President Sergey Shefir, Deputy Heads of the Office of the Head of State Igor Zhovkva and Yulia Sviridenko, Director of Helios JSC Rostislav Shurma, General Director of ArcelorMittal CIS Vijay Goyal, General Director of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih JSC Mauro Longobardi .
