Dneprovsk Metallurgical Plant specialists achieved record serial production of continuous casting machine
Dniprovsky Metallurgical Plant (DMK) has achieved a record serial production of continuous casting of billets at CCM-3. In the course of one technological cycle, it was possible to carry out 60 casts in a row without stopping the continuous casting machine, having received 15,000 tons of continuously cast billets.
The duration of the continuous casting series was 81 hours - this is the first time in the history of its operation that metallurgists managed to achieve such a record on the third machine.
“The standard rate of casting seriality at CCM-3 is 25-30 heats. Today we have a doubled figure - 60 bottled. We have achieved such a satisfactory result by performing a number of technological preparatory operations. Firstly, the provision of tundish with more stable refractories, the internal configuration of the metal receiver was also changed to reduce the impact of the falling metal stream on the refractory masonry. In addition, a spring cooling system was installed on a tundish to minimize exposure to high temperatures. In the future, we will work on increasing the casting seriality indicators, and in the near future our goal is to consolidate the obtained result on a long-term basis, ”says Alexander Karabut, head of the CCM section of the converter shop.
The achieved serial production at CCM-3 made it possible to reduce the specific consumption of natural gas and refractories by reducing ladle heating cycles. Additionally, metallurgists were able to save the amount of metal charge and increase the yield of good metal.
