Back to the future: Interpipe told how to develop the industry of Ukraine
During the Forum of Innovative Industries, organized by the Kiev International Economic Forum, First Deputy General Director of the industrial company Interpipe Denis Morozov spoke about what the industrial policy of Ukraine should be focused on and what challenges it faces.
According to the top manager, Ukraine's goal should be to transform from a country with a resource-based economy to a country with an economy that produces goods with high added value.
“For this it is necessary to develop the processing industry by pursuing a reasonable trade policy. It is logical to recycle scrap in Ukraine, making wheels from it for high-speed trains Deutsche Bahn. The higher the level of processing, the more taxes and jobs, "Morozov noted.
Also, according to the representative of Interpipe, investments in infrastructure, for example, in car building, oil and gas production, modernization of housing and communal services, can become a mechanism for the development of industry.
"They will have a trigger effect that will launch entire production chains of Ukrainian enterprises, which will give an additional 2-3% GDP growth," Morozov said.
In addition, the Ukrainian industry will have to decarbonize. This is a serious challenge for her, otherwise she may lose the European market after the introduction of the so-called "carbon tax".
According to Morozov, Ukraine can fulfill the conditions of the European "Green Deal" subject to sufficient investment. He recalled that 9 years ago Interpipe made the largest environmental investment in the domestic industry, investing a billion dollars in the construction of the innovative electric steel-making complex Interpipe Steel. The new plant made it possible to close the environmentally dirty open-hearth steel production, reduce CO 2 emissions by 10 times, and today the enterprise meets the goals of the Green Deal for 2050 as much as possible.
