ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih for the first time in Ukraine introduced the position of environmental ombudsman to the staffing table

PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" created the position of environmental ombudsman, whose responsibilities will be responsible for the implementation of the updated environmental strategy of the company, interaction with the eco-community, the decarbonization plan for ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and the whole range of tasks related to adapting the enterprise to the European requirements for reducing industrial load on the environment.

“ArcelorMittal was one of the first in the world to declare its readiness to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030 and become a carbon neutral company by 2050. This takes steel production to a whole new level, and our dialogue with the public becomes more substantive. Environmental issues are acute in our region, and as an environmental ombudsman, Olga is ready for constructive interaction with all stakeholders - government agencies, experts, and the local community. I am sure that Olga's strategic thinking and determination will contribute to the success of our enterprise in the direction of decarbonization, as well as her rich professional experience, which combines work in large business and in research projects at the international level, "said Mauro Longobardo, General Director of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih. .

The new appointment confirms ArcelorMittal's overall commitment to sustainable development and carbon footprint reduction. The Environmental Ombudsman will report to Zhanbek Esmakhanov, Director of the Department for Labor Protection, Industrial Safety and Environment of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih. Liana Maksimenko, formerly Director of the Environmental Protection Department, retired this September after 18 years of work at the enterprise and the successful implementation of many environmental projects that formed the basis of the current eco-modernization of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih.

Let us remind you that last week the State Ecological Inspectorate of Ukraine filed claims against Lakshmi Mittala's company in the amount of UAH 456.7 million, alleging numerous violations of environmental legislation.

"The State Environmental Inspectorate will continue to conduct unscheduled inspections of PJSC" ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih ", calculate new losses and issue fines until the company provides a comprehensive modernization of facilities and brings its industrial processes in accordance with environmental legislation," the official promised. /p>
