Severstal is implementing a project for briquetting steelmaking dust as part of a comprehensive waste reduction program

Press Releases

PJSC Severstal (one of the world's leading vertically integrated steel and mining companies) has started the installation of the main equipment of the line for briquetting dust from gas purifiers at the steelmaking plant of the Cherepovets Steel Works (Cherepovets Steel Works), which will allow to process and reuse in production up to 23 thousand tons of dust .

According to Vadim Germanov, General Director of the Severstal Russian Steel Division, the line is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2019. It will reach its design dust processing capacity in 2020. At the moment, the main equipment is being installed, the supplier of which is AMCOM LLC.

The main units and assemblies of the line have already been installed, in particular, an extruder, mixers, a feeding station, a conveyor, a control panel, as well as bins for storing finished zinc-containing briquettes. Work continues on the installation of equipment for receiving and unloading dust, power lines and control circuits for the line, instrumentation and automation. Installation supervision and commissioning is carried out by the supplier of the main technological equipment.

“The technology for the disposal of this type of waste, such as gas cleaning dust, is new for the Russian metallurgy. It will allow organizing the recycling of steelmaking dust, while solving the environmental problems of the enterprise by reducing the volume of waste placed. This is another systematic step in resolving environmental issues, to which we pay the closest attention. The cost of the investment will be more than 100 million rubles, "Vadim Germanov noted.

The finished briquettes will be used in the smelting of an electric furnace, or sold. Recall that a large range of measures is being implemented under the program to reduce emissions at CherMK. They were developed as part of the May Decree of the President of the Russian Federation to reduce gross emissions in large industrial centers.

Severstal is systematically reducing the impact on the environment in Cherepovets. From 2004 to 2018, an investment program was implemented aimed at reducing emissions of pollutants into the air, while gross emissions into the air of CherMK during this time were reduced by 45,000 tons. The costs for the implementation of air protection measures in the period from 2004 to 2018 amounted to more than 11 billion rubles. And the work in the direction of nature conservation continues, "said the head of Russian Steel.
