How to recognize a car after an accident?

Hiding the fact of car damage during its sale is a common thing in the Ukrainian car market. Every day in our country, countless transactions are made for the sale of various vehicles, and although most of them are accident-free cars, a large percentage of them have at least one collision. Sellers often try to hide a car's "turbulent" past by not saying a word about the unpleasant event, and even praising the car's "perfect" condition. So drivers looking to buy a used car should know where to look for any signs that the car may not be 100% roadworthy.

A car after an accident has a number of features that the experienced eye of a professional, a mechanic, will notice almost immediately. So it is best to contact a specialized car service before buying, where the vehicle will be carefully checked. The cost of such a "test" is about 2000-3000 UAH, but it is better to make sure in advance whether the car you are trying to buy is in good condition. In the event that we cannot afford this type of diagnostics, we must be accompanied, for example, by a familiar auto expert when inspecting a car. If this option is not suitable, we can take a look at the car we want to own.

Sometimes things can be seen with the naked eye. If, for example, the gaps between the individual parts of the body are not equal (for example, with moldings on the door), you can almost say for sure that this is due to the inept attempt of the tinsmith to fit these elements. After an accident, a car often (but not always) has varnish of various shades, as well as visible traces of chips and paint. The varnish itself can be checked with a special tester to measure its thickness. When the test shows any fluctuations, it is safe to doubt the guarantee of the car's perfect condition, knowing that it has probably been "extra" painted.

During the preliminary inspection of the car, we must definitely look under its chassis. First of all, you need to pay attention to any scuffs and dents, as well as to the engine mount and gearbox. The condition of the floor is also important here - the protective layer must be continuous and uniform, without traces of cracks and cavities. From the outside, the car should look "exemplary" - we can notice bumps even due to opening the door too much. It is also worth looking to see if the seats show signs of damage and if the seat belts work without binding. It is also good to know the condition of the A-pillars, since these elements are difficult to repair, and therefore ignored in the event of an accidental "decoration" of the car. It is not uncommon for a car's poor condition and resulting past to be also demonstrated by the normal unevenness or asymmetry of the car body. In this case, we should also see the defect with the naked eye. We can also determine, for example, whether all windows in a car have the same serial number. If this number differs on one or two windows, it will mean that they have been replaced and the car is probably not accident-free.
