The Belgian company ArcelorMittal has announced the official restart of its Galva 5 hot-dip galvanizing line in Fleming after four years of downtime. This discovery strengthens the company's position in Europe and expands its production capabilities for the production of steel products with a thicker profile metal coating.
A large-scale modernization program has been completed
The Galva 5 line was acquired by ArcelorMittal in July 2025, after which the company embarked on a large-scale reconstruction and modernization project.
The upgrade included roof repairs, maintenance of the feed and unwinding systems, restoration of the etching shop and galvanizing bath, as well as improvements to the digital infrastructure of the site.
Expanded opportunities for the production of steel with a metal coating
With the relaunch of Galva 5, ArcelorMittal in Belgium is rebuilding its domestic production facilities for the production of metal-coated steel in thicker formats. The company is integrated into a broader European network of coated steel production and processes hot-rolled coils supplied from the ArcelorMittal plant in Ghent.
The galvanized steel products produced at the Flémalle plant are designed for a variety of industries, including road safety infrastructure, air conditioning systems, industrial equipment, and automotive components. According to the company, the location of the plant in Central Europe will improve proximity to customers, shorten order fulfillment times and increase supply flexibility.
Extended technical specifications
From a technical point of view, the Galva 5 line is capable of processing hot-rolled materials up to 6.35 mm thick and up to 1,880 mm wide. The equipment is also equipped with integrated etching technology, which reduces production routes and ensures compatibility with high-strength steels and various metal coatings.
ArcelorMittal Belgium stated that the restart of the line also supports the company's strategy for the production of low-carbon steel.
