TMK Steel Technologies, a subsidiary of Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK), has for the first time supplied a customer with fittings designed to gradually change a pipeline’s diameter—eccentric reducers. The components are intended to upgrade gas pipeline process lines at a facility under construction in the Arctic.
The batch comprised seven eccentric reducers made of high-strength alloy steel resistant to corrosion and temperature fluctuations. The cone-shaped products measure 1 420 by 720 mm and 1 220 by 720 mm in diameter, with a wall thickness of 56 mm. The reducers are designed with the axes of the inlet and outlet nozzles offset from one another, preventing the transported medium from stagnating in the pipeline, reducing the risk of air pockets and maintaining a steady flow under extreme loads.
The production cycle for the new products included tooling development, forming on a press and final machining on computer numerical control machines.
"TMK continues to expand its expertise in producing pipeline fittings designed for operation in extreme climatic conditions. Such products are subject to special quality requirements, and TMK Steel Technologies specialists have once again demonstrated a high level of professionalism by ensuring precise offset geometry for the components’ axes despite their thick walls. This experience strengthens our competitive position in the market for solutions for the oil and gas industry," said Evgeny Gubanov, managing director of TMK’s pipeline and machinery division.
TMK Steel Technologies manufactures formed and welded pipeline components. Its main products include elbows for changing the direction of trunk pipelines, tees for creating branches, components for sealing and changing from one diameter to another, as well as heavy engineering equipment for various industries.
