the ceremony was attended by Plenipotentiary representative of RF President in the Urals Federal district, Nikolai Tsukanov, the Governor of Chelyabinsk region Alexey Teksler, President of the Board of Directors of JSC "Mechel" Igor Zyuzin and General Director of JSC "Mechel" Oleg Korzhov. Guests of honor and the first person of JSC "Mechel" pressed the symbolic button and launched a renewed blast furnace No. 4 and Converter number 1. It is two large-scale projects that are part of a four-sided environmental agreements signed "Mechel" with the Ministry of natural resources, Rosprirodnadzor and the Government of the Chelyabinsk region, and included in the list of environmental activities of the Federal program "Clean air".
"last year the government of the Chelyabinsk region, Rosprirodnadzor, Ministry of natural resources and Mechel signed an environmental agreement. Its result was a reconstructed workshop of Mechel, which we see today. Update Converter, of course, will contribute to improving the environmental situation in Chelyabinsk. A third will cut its emissions by 15% will increase output. Wish the plant to continue to develop," – said the Plenipotentiary representative of RF President in the Urals Federal district, Nikolai Tsukanov.
"Today is a big and important event for the region. One of our major enterprises, "Mechel" – has reconstructed blast furnace and Converter. The upgrading of these facilities improves environmental safety and reduces emissions. Congratulations on this significant event," – said the Governor of Chelyabinsk region Alexey Teksler.
In the course of technical re-equipment both units were practically rebuilt. Blast furnace and the equipment is completely dismantled, put together a new casing and cupola, replaced the refractory walls of the cooling system, installed a new apparatus for the filling of iron ore and coke, also has installed an advanced computerized control system: all operating parameters of the furnace are controlled by computer and displayed on the monitor. Great attention in the overhaul process was paid to improving environmental performance: installed new three-stage gas purification system. It is completely sealed and prevents the ingress of combustion products into the atmosphere. Generated in the process of iron smelting blast furnace gas is then used in industrial production as fuel. The capacity of the blast furnace – 1,1 million tonnes of pig iron per year. Investments amounted to 1.5 billion rubles. The company has launched the second stage of technical re – construction of aspiration of the casting yard blast furnace No. 4, which will allow this unit to eliminate emissions of solid substances.
In the course of the works at the Converter No. 1 replaced the housing Assembly, boiler-cooler, a feed path of bulk materials to increase the weight of the melting and productivity of steelmaking. Solved one of the main tasks Converter, equipped with the modern three-stage system of gas purification, which allows to minimize the emissions generated in the smelting process. The annual capacity is 1.3 million tons of steel. Investments amounted to 3 billion rubles, of which 1.5 billion was directed to environmental measures, the implementation of which will allow more than 30% to reduce emissions of Converter №1.
After the reconstruction of the Converter # 1 and the end of the second stage of modernization of blast furnace No. 4, the emissions of the Chelyabinsk metallurgical plant will be reduced by 116 tonnes per year.
"We are grateful to the company "Mechel" for the trust in such technically complex work. Our company has made every effort to deliver the project before deadlines. The updated units will be more productive, and environmental parameters will improve," said Andrei Deineko, President of the group of companies "Metprom" (contractor performing work).
"Blast and basic-oxygen production – main CMP. Three blast furnaces supply the enterprise with a cast for the subsequent production of steel in three steel-making converters. Reconstruction of blast furnace No. 4 and Converter number 1 is the most large-scale projects implemented at the Chelyabinsk industrial site of the Group "Mechel" in 2013. After the technical upgrading the capacity of both units will increase by 15%, this will help to increase the following parts of the technological chain: steelmaking and rolling facilities. It is also important to note that the implemented environmental measures will help to minimize the impact of this equipment on the environment," – said General Director of JSC "Mechel" Oleg Korzhov.
