Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant recycles metallurgical waste

Press Releases
The Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (PJSC Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant, part of the Mechel Group) is increasing the volume of processing of blast furnace dust, the main type of waste from metallurgical production. It is collected and reused in the production of agglomerate - the main raw material for the production of cast iron.

Blast furnace dust is formed in blast furnaces and contains at least 40% iron. During the production process, it enters the so-called "wet" gas cleaning system, where it settles under the influence of water.

For the processing of blast furnace dust, Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant launched a special unit - a sieve drum. The plant specialists designed and built the unit. The device can also process iron-containing dust from dumps, thereby reducing the amount of industrial waste.

“Iron-containing waste - blast furnace dust, sludge from blast furnace and converter production, mill mill scale - are formed at different stages of metallurgical production. At ChMK, all this waste is reused. Every year the plant increases the share of recyclable waste, reducing the burden on the environment, "said Chief Engineer Vladimir Kapnin.
