Metalloinvest, a leading manufacturer and supplier of iron ore and hot briquetted iron (HBI) in the world market, one of the regional producers of high-quality steel, and KAMAZ PJSC (part of Rostec State Corporation) held the fourth coordination council on technical and commercial issues.
The meeting of the delegations of the companies was held at the Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant (OEMK, part of Metalloinvest) - a leading supplier of high-quality long products (SBQ) to the car plant. In November 2017, Metalloinvest and KAMAZ signed a three-year memorandum of cooperation in the field of SBQ supplies. The car plant places orders with OEMK in the amount of up to 80% of the need for long products of the corresponding assortment. OEMK rolled metal is used at KAMAZ enterprises for the production of the most critical and highly loaded vehicle components and assemblies - engine shafts and gearboxes, gears, gear wheels, steering parts, rods, struts and shock absorber springs. SBQ is distinguished by a narrow band of hardenability, regulated by the content of non-metallic inclusions, a given microstructure, has great strength and ductility, and is focused on increased machinability.
“KAMAZ is a key partner and one of the main consumers of Oskol metal,” said Sergey Shishkovets, Managing Director of OEMK. - The plant ships to the address of this plant rolled structural steel from carbon and alloy steel grades, ranging from a bar with a diameter of 50 millimeters and ending with a round bar with a diameter of 170 millimeters. KAMAZ is one of the main manufacturers of trucks in Russia, which has won the prestigious Dakar rally many times. “We have been cooperating with OEMK for a long time, but a radical change occurred after the signing in 2015 of a strategic partnership program with Metalloinvest. Now we meet regularly, discuss promising projects and tasks, and, I hope, such mutually beneficial cooperation will continue, ”said Denis Kochnev, Director of the Department for Procurement of Metals and Materials of KAMAZ PTC. - One of the main issues of the current coordination council concerns the possibility of developing and supplying new steel grades in order to reduce the cost of the plant's final products without compromising quality.
Coordination Councils, which are held twice a year, help both sides to determine the vector of further development.
“This coordination council touched upon a lot of issues - commercial, technical, organizational, - said Igor Sych, director of the sales department of metallurgical products of the Management Company Metalloinvest. - For several years now, we have been working with KAMAZ according to the so-called “price formula”, determining the base price for metal products for a year and revising it once a quarter, taking into account quotations for scrap and alloying ferroalloys. We have recently introduced an electronic document management system, which KAMAZ proposes to improve: they would like not only to receive all documents in electronic form, but also to see at what stage of execution their order is from the moment of arrival at the plant to the moment of shipment to wagons and delivery. "
As part of the visit, KAMAZ representatives made an excursion to Lebedinsky GOK, where they got acquainted with the process of production of hot briquetted iron (HBI) and visited the open pit of Lebedinsky GOK - a unique iron ore deposit in terms of reserves and the world's largest non-combustible mineral resource. The next coordination council will take place in autumn at the KAMAZ site.
