PJSC Severstal supported the 19th Ferapontovo Readings on the History and Culture of Northern Monasteries at the Museum of Dionysius Frescoes (Ferapontovo village, Vologda Oblast). The conference is considered one of the most important events in the scientific, museum and spiritual life of the region, and this year is being held online for the first time.
The Ferapontov Readings is a unique opportunity to meet on the same site countries, exchange experience, get acquainted with new research on the history and culture of the Russian North. The first conference was held in 2001 with the support of Severstal.
Readings are held by the Museum of Dionysius Frescoes, a branch of the Kirillo-Belozersk Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve, and the Northern Thebaida Spiritual and Educational Center.
Recently, there has been an increasing interest of young people in the local history of monasteries and devotees of Orthodoxy, the everyday life of the Russian clergy, the history of Orthodox architecture and objects of church art, research into written historical sources, in the search and creation of new tourist and interactive routes to historical and cultural sites by immersion in history. The purpose of the conference is spiritual enlightenment, patriotic education, familiarizing students with scientific research, communication of young researchers and specialists united by an interest in the history of the Russian North.
In total, 36 reports were presented to the jury, in the preparation of which more than 80 people took part. To date, the reports of the participants have gained more than 10 thousand views on social networks.
