This model is part of MMK's large-scale digitalization strategy. The program is based on the creation of an integrated multi-level model of sintering and blast-furnace production, designed to optimize the production processes of the first redistribution.

The model for optimizing the supply and consumption of coal raw materials at PJSC MMK has been in operation since February 2017. It is based on the study of coke and blast furnace production since 2011 and is MMK's own development. The development, implementation and development of the model is carried out by the group of mathematical modeling and system-analytical research of the scientific and technical center of PJSC MMK. The model allows to optimize the process both at the level of the technologist and at the level of the purchasing specialist. The goal is to obtain the required coke quality at minimum costs.

Today the model is used in the business process of purchasing coal concentrates, integrating the knowledge and requirements of all PJSC MMK services involved in this process: including management category purchases (model owner), scientific and technical center, coke production, economic management. Calculations are performed monthly as part of the business process for the purchase of coal concentrates:

  • forecast of coke quality for a given structure and volume of coal raw materials;

  • optimization of the structure of supply and consumption of coal charge;

  • analysis of the sensitivity of the optimization calculation to prices and calculation of the recommended effective prices for the purchase of coal concentrates.

All calculations are performed in a multi-user web interface - AIS "Model for optimizing the supply and consumption of coal raw materials."

This is not the first successful project of mathematical modeling of optimization of production processes of the first processing (the contribution of the first processing about 80%). A mathematical model for optimizing the delivery and consumption of iron ore raw materials has also been developed, and an automated information system "Optimal pig iron" has been created. The developments used Big Data technologies and artificial neural networks, but traditional physical and chemical models were also used, in particular, allowing to take into account the dynamic characteristics of the blast furnace process.
