Development of one of the largest deposits in Russia starts in the Republic of Bashkortostan
Republic of Bashkortostan
The Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC) begins development of the Podolsk copper-zinc deposit in the Republic of Bashkortostan. The construction of a new underground mine was solemnly launched in the Khaibulli region. In terms of production volumes, it will become one of the largest in the country and will be included in the top three key objects of the UMMC raw material base.
At the end of June 2019, UMMC General Director Andrey Kozitsyn and Acting Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov signed an agreement of intent to implement investment project for the development of the Podolsk copper-zinc deposit. The license for the development of reserves belongs to the company's enterprise - LLC Bashkirskaya Med ', the general contractor of the construction will be another organization of the holding - PJSC Gaysky GOK.
The estimated investment in the project is estimated at 50 billion rubles. In July, at the international industrial exhibition INNOPROM-2019 in Yekaterinburg, the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company entered into an agreement with Sberbank regarding the organization and start of project financing.
The first brick in the construction of a new The mine was founded by the Acting Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov and the General Director of UMMC Andrey Kozitsyn. After that, the excavator symbolically scooped up the first bucket of earth.
- Today is a very important day for our republic. The development of the largest deposit begins, which will provide our industry with mining raw materials for decades, create new jobs, guarantee investments, and also ensure the social development of the Khaybulli region and the region as a whole, - Radiy Khabirov said at the opening ceremony.
The Podolsk copper-zinc deposit was discovered by the Bashkir Territorial Geological Department in 1971. In two deposits of the deposit - "Severnaya" and "Central" - reserves of copper, copper-zinc and sulfur-pyrite ores have been explored. Their volume is estimated at 88.6 million tons of ore. In addition to copper, the future raw materials contain a number of other promising components for industrial production: zinc, sulfur, silver and gold.
- Together we are doing great, serious work. In the near future, not just an underground mine will appear here, but a full-fledged mining and processing plant, - Andrei Kozitsyn emphasized. - In fact, the object is not simple. The ore body begins at a depth of 600 meters. But thanks to the support from the government of the Republic of Bashkortostan, we have the opportunity to implement such complex investment projects.
Development of the deposit will be carried out underground. The project provides for the construction of capital mine workings required to start mining. The builders will pass two inclined shafts, designed to discharge rock mass from the underground mine. After that, two vertical shafts of the Zapadnaya and Vostochnaya mines are equipped for lowering /lifting people and supplying fresh air to the lower horizons. It is assumed that the shafts will go underground by almost 800 meters.
The start of production at the Severnaya deposit is scheduled for 2027. At this stage, the capacity of the underground mine will be about 1 million tons of ore per year, more than 600 people are employed at the deposit. Production at the Centralnaya deposit is planned to begin in 2032. After the enterprise reaches full capacity, production volumes will grow to 4.3 million tons, and the number of employees - to 1400 people.
In addition to the construction of the mine, the project provides for the construction of a new processing plant, where mined ore will be processed, a complex of treatment and water intake facilities, an energy substation, as well as various technological, administrative and utility buildings and structures.
