Metalloinvest improves energy efficiency of Ural Steel
Metalloinvest, a leading manufacturer and supplier of iron ore products and hot briquetted iron (HBI) in the world market, one of the regional producers of high-quality steel, is implementing a large-scale project to modernize the combined heat and power plant (CHP) at Ural Steel.
“Modernization of our own generation with the use of modern technologies is an important part of the comprehensive program for the development of Ural Steel production,” said Andrey Varichev, CEO of Metalloinvest Management Company. - The newest units with high efficiency will increase the energy efficiency of the enterprise. They will help reduce energy consumption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce equipment maintenance costs. "
As part of the project, a new complex with two medium-pressure boilers with a capacity of 220 tons of steam per hour each is being built at the Ural Steel TPP. Commissioning of boilers is scheduled for the second half of 2020.
The reconstruction of the chemical water treatment plant No. 3 is underway with the installation of a unique automated installation for chemical water purification from salts. It is capable of producing 300 tons per hour of distilled water required for the smooth operation of the high pressure unit boilers. Commissioning of the equipment is scheduled for December 2020.
In April this year, the replacement of the electrical equipment of the communication transformer No. 2 was completed. Communication transformer # 3 will also be replaced.
In the future, it is planned to renovate the CHPP with the successive replacement of five high-pressure boilers, turbine generators and air compressors.
“Next year, Ural Steel's CHPP will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its launch,” said Yevgeny Maslov, Managing Director of Ural Steel. - Operating on the principle of a “utilization station” using its own coke oven and blast furnace gas, the combined heat and power plant supplies the enterprise and residential quarters of Novotroitsk with electricity, steam and hot water. Reconstruction of the CHPP is necessary to maintain the energy capacities of the enterprise - to provide steam to the blast furnace shop blowers, heat energy to the subdivisions of the plant and the city.
