Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works spent 15 million rubles on equipment for capturing oil products
The Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant (CherMK), one of the largest integrated steel plants in the world (part of the Severstal Russian Steel division), has implemented an environmental investment project aimed at improving the quality of wastewater worth about 15 million rubles.
In particular, an oil and petrol separator was installed on the industrial storm collector of the heat and power plant-steam-blowing station (CHPP-PVS), which allows retaining oil products. It is a sponge filter cleaning system. The oil and petrol separator is located underground with wells leading to the surface for maintenance.
The captured oil products are delivered for regeneration. According to the technical characteristics of the treatment plant, the content of oil products after cleaning the flood waters of the CHPP-PVS will be reduced by half. The captured volume of pollutants will in fact become known at the end of the year.
The measure to install a trapping device for oil products at the flood waters of CHPP-PVS is included in the plan for reducing discharges of pollutants, agreed with the Office of Rosprirodnadzor in the Vologda region.
The company intends to assess the environmental effect of the implemented water protection measures, including the above, including through monitoring of biological diversity - an important component of environmental monitoring. Such an agreement to assess the impact of CherMK on the nabiodiversity of the river. Costa "Severstal" concluded this year with the Research Institute of Biology of Inland Waters named after ID Papanin.
“We are implementing a whole range of water protection measures. As a result, in 2018 compared to 2017, we achieved an improvement in the quality of waste water outlet No. 3 for a number of substances. Now we are choosing technologies for additional wastewater treatment up to standards. We plan to bring the indicators in line by 2023, "commented Vadim Germanov, CEO of Severstal Russian Steel.
For reference:
Since 1995 At CherMK, seven outlets of water to the rivers Yagorba, Koshta, Sheksna were closed. At present, discharges are carried out in two outlets - No. 3 and 10. Outlet No. 10, the enterprise reaches the permissible discharge standards (VAT). Achievement of VAT on flow No. 3 is planned by 2023. The closedness of the CherMK water circulation system is 98.3%, this is one of the best indicators in the Russian metallurgy. In total, CherMK circulates about 3 million cubic meters of water. Water release measures No. 3 were included in the priority national project "Preservation and prevention of pollution of the Volga River on the territory of the Vologda Oblast". The project passport includes 12 measures to radically reduce the anthropogenic impact on the Volga River basin, including 3 measures for PJSC Severstal.
