ChMK open-air museum celebrates its anniversary
The open-air museum, part of the museum complex of the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant, began work on September 23, 1994 near the “Blast furnace” checkpoint of the plant. On the site are samples of products and equipment of the main workshops of the enterprise, for example, among the exhibits you can see a rail 80 meters long and other products manufactured at the ChMK rail and structural mill, samples of stainless steel rolled products, various types of coke in a container made of heavy-duty glass. The most notable exhibits are equipment that makes up the history of metallurgy: a ladle of the electric steel-making shop No. 2 with a capacity of 130 tons and a railway platform with molds for liquid steel solidifying in ingots. The latter can be found now only in the museum, since the technology is outdated and not used. The territory of the museum is decorated with cast-iron lampposts made at the Kasli plant for architectural and artistic casting, also part of the Mechel Group. Similar ones are installed in the Olympic Sochi. The open-air museum is one of the attractions of the Metallurgical district. In 2018, the flower garden near the checkpoint was recognized as the best flower bed in Chelyabinsk. For reference: the museum complex of the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant, founded in 1968 as a "history cabinet", today is one of the largest and oldest information and exhibition centers of metallurgical enterprises in Russia. In 2018, the ChMK Museum was awarded the Badge of Honor of the Association of Employees of Public Museums of Chelyabinsk, in 2019 the museum employee was awarded the Golden Lyre prize of the Chelyabinsk administration for his contribution to the development of the city's culture.
