BMK modernizes production

In the cold rolling shop of the Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant (BMK JSC, part of the Mechel Group), a modern cooling tower and a new closed loop water supply for drawing equipment were put into operation. This will reduce water consumption and wastewater disposal.

A fan-type cooling tower with a capacity of more than 100 cubic meters per hour is designed to cool industrial water, which is used in the production of wire to prevent its overheating, as well as parts of drawing machines and dies. This allows us to produce products with the required quality characteristics and extends the service life of the units. And thanks to the closed cycle of water supply, water consumption is reduced and the volume of industrial effluent discharged by the workshop is reduced by 1.5 times.

In addition, new water-cooling equipment manufactured at one of the domestic machine-building plants is small-sized and easy to maintain. The whole process is automated and allows you to adjust the volume of water supply depending on the number of machines in operation. Investments amounted to more than 9 million rubles.

The next stage of modernization of this workshop will be the closure of the pickling department and the installation of new belt grinding equipment for cleaning the workpiece surface for wire from scale mechanically, instead of the traditional one with the use of acid.

Technical re-equipment of the workshop is carried out within the framework of the investment project "Implementation of the best available technologies aimed at increasing the efficiency of steel wire and rope production at BMK", implemented with the support of the RF Industry Development Fund ... The project is calculated until 2023. It provides for the installation of new modern drawing mills, the closure of pickling departments in a number of workshops and the reconstruction of the existing treatment facilities of the plant. Its goals are: improving the quality of products, increasing the profitability of production and labor productivity, as well as solving environmental problems facing the enterprise today.
