ESG – from words to deeds! ESAB at the International Forum MINEX Kazakhstan 2023

From April 19 to 20, Astana hosted the largest international forum MINEX Kazakhstan 2023, dedicated to the development of the mining and geological industry in the region. Within the framework of the strategic session "ESG, Green Transformation and Climate Management in the development agenda of mining and metallurgical enterprises", Alexey Nuzhny, General and Financial Director of ESAB, Russia and CIS, spoke.

In his speech "ESG – from words to deeds: Solutions for the sustainable development of an industrial enterprise", he spoke about the activities in the field of corporate governance and environmental protection that are carried out in the company. In addition, high-tech equipment and ESAB welding materials were presented, which are designed to improve energy efficiency, environmental friendliness and safety of the production process.

So, over the past year, ESAB has implemented a number of projects to reduce occupational risks. In particular, the company conducted internal activities that involved employees in jointly solving the problems of occupational injuries and occupational morbidity, as well as promoting a safety culture at work. Rational use of energy resources remains an equally important area of work for ESAB. In 2022, the company implemented a number of projects to modernize production, in particular lighting systems. As part of the rational use of water at ESAB plants, the industrial water supply and sanitation system was modernized for the reuse of contaminated water in the production process.

Alexey Nuzhny paid special attention to ESAB products and solutions for creating energy-efficient and safe welding production of the future. Among the global novelties of 2022 is the Renegade VOLT ™ ES 200i Stick/TIG battery welding system, which was developed in accordance with the European Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation. In addition, in December last year, ESAB introduced the multiprocessor Warrior Edge 500 CX power supply, Exeor MIG burners and the Robust Feed Edge CX wire feeder to the world market. The latter is equipped with a digital TrueFlow gas supply system, which improves the quality of welding and helps to avoid defects caused by incorrect gas flow velocity.

ESAB's other digital solutions include the WeldCloud platform, CutCloud and InduSuite server applications. Real-time programs not only provide an unprecedented level of control over welding and cutting processes, but also help to improve safety by minimizing the human factor and reducing waste.

When developing its solutions, the company pays great attention to packaging. Thus, the new Marathon Pac ™ Ultra for wire is characterized by a strong body and reinforced corners, accommodates 22% more welding materials than previous packages. Marathon Pac Ultra complies with the European Ecodesign Regulation for Sustainable products. After use, the corrugated paper components can be separated for easy recycling.

"Despite the fact that ESAB has been conducting large-scale work in Kazakhstan for several years, we are taking part in the MINEX forum for the first time. And we can say with confidence that the event exceeded all expectations. Modern enterprises of Central Asia are developing intensively, introducing modern and technological solutions. The issues of transition to the principles of sustainable development are becoming more and more important every year, and Kazakhstani enterprises are increasingly introducing ESG principles into their business models. For ESAB, as a company that has been following these principles for a long time, it was important to meet with like-minded people, exchange experiences and identify new growth points. And we thank the organizers of MINEX Kazakhstan for this unique opportunity!", - said Alexey Nuzhny, General and Financial Director of ESAB, Russia and CIS.

This year, the MINEX Kazakhstan 2023 forum has indeed broken long-standing records. Over 700 delegates from 30 countries visited the event during the two days of work, and 230 companies took part in the business program. The platform has become not only the epicenter of information for foreign companies, but also an opportunity to discuss current industry challenges and outline solutions.
