Metalloinvest starts deliveries of premium quality pellets from Mikhailovsky GOK

Metalloinvest, a leading manufacturer and supplier of iron ore products and hot briquetted iron on the world market, one of the regional producers of high-quality steel, has begun shipping premium quality pellets to consumers from Mikhailovsky GOK.

From a mixture of concentrates from Mikhailovsky and Lebedinsky GOKs, Mikhailovsky GOK produced batches of pellets with increased base - 1.0 (mass fraction of iron - at least 63.0%, compressive strength - at least 240 kg /s) for ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel ...

Metalloinvest is implementing a set of measures at Mikhailovsky GOK aimed at improving the quality of iron ore concentrate and pellets. At the concentrator, the introduction of Derrick fine screening technology continues, and the pelletizing plant is modernizing the roasting machines.

“Our goal is to bring the products of Mikhailovsky GOK to the level of the best world standards and open new sales markets for them,” said Nazim Efendiev, First Deputy General Director - Commercial Director of Metalloinvest Management Company. “The first deliveries of high quality pellets confirm the demand for new products from the plant by the world's leading metallurgical companies.”

“For consumers, the metallurgical properties of the pellets, their strength, the possibility of transportation without loss of quality and the efficiency of melting are important,” said Sergei Pigarev, chief metallurgist of Mikhailovsky GOK. “The plant is ready to flexibly adapt the quality characteristics of its products to the needs of specific consumers.”

For the production of high-base pellets, the equipment of the Roasting Machine No. 3 of the pelletizing plant of MGOK was modernized. In particular, new high-performance limestone weighing machines with an improved automated control system were installed. The capacity of the limestone feed bins has been increased. At the site of thickening, filtration and raw pelletizing, work was carried out to expand the service areas.

Industrial production was preceded by a series of experimental laboratory studies followed by pellet firing in real conditions. Specialists from NPVP TOREX (part of Metalloinvest) took part in laboratory and industrial tests.

Further improvement of the quality characteristics of Mikhailovsky GOK concentrate due to the introduction of fine screening technology will allow the plant to expand the production of high-base pellets. The fine screening sections of the MGOK concentrating plant produce concentrate with an iron content of 67% and a reduced silica content.

Reducing the level of silica in the concentrate allows you to achieve the required basis of the pellets with less fluxing additives. Thus, the productivity of the roasting machines is increased while maintaining the required strength of the pellets.

Another Metalloinvest enterprise, Lebedinsky GOK, has been producing pellets with increased base for three years already.
