Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) announces the first descent of a casing string from its own pipes into a well with a length of more than 10 km at one of the Russian oil and gas fields. The column consisted of TMK UP Momentum GT threaded pipes designed for the development of deposits with hard-to-recover hydrocarbon reserves.
A section with a length of more than 4.2 km of pipes with a diameter of 244.5 mm is installed in the lower part of the casing. Its descent was carried out by the float method, in which the inner volume of the pipes is filled with air, which allows the column to "float" in a well filled with drilling fluid.
"TMK creates advanced engineering solutions for the implementation of our partners' most complex projects. The first experience of lowering premium casing pipes into a well with a length of more than 10 km once again confirms the effectiveness of our developments and opens up new opportunities for the extraction of hard—to-recover hydrocarbon reserves," said Evgeny Zaselsky, Chief Engineer of TMK.
The Momentum GT threaded connection is designed for the construction of wells with horizontal sections exceeding 2.5 km. Their use allows you to at least double the force applied to the column to rotate it. This is especially important when drilling long wells with complex trajectories.
For the first time, a column of TMK pipes was lowered into a well with a length of more than 10 kilometers
