Hyundai Motor Turkiye has officially started production of the Hyundai Ioniq 3 at its Izmit plant, which became the first electric vehicle (EV) produced by a foreign automaker in Turkey, Automotive World reports. The launch followed an investment of 250 million euros ($287.5 million) aimed at upgrading more than half of the plant's capacity over the past two years.
The Izmit plant, founded in 1997 as Hyundai's first overseas production facility, has received total investments of 1.185 billion euros ($1.36 billion) in its history. The launch ceremony was attended by Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir, as well as the management of Hyundai Motor Europe.
