Rhine Group: Draghi and European business leaders create lobby group to revive competitiveness agenda
On August 24, a group of 55 high-ranking European business leaders, academics, and media representatives launched the "Rhine Group" project, which aims to develop solutions to Europe's competitiveness problems based on the 2024 report by Mario Draghi, former President of the European Central Bank.
Draghi, Stripe CEO Patrick Collison, whose company provides online payments, and the group's executive director, Spanish economist Luis Garicano, will lead the group, which will hold its first meeting on September 20-23. Members

Its members include former French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, former Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Dutch scientist and former Minister Robbert Dijkgraaf and French economist, Nobel Prize winner Philippe Agion.
The editors of The Financial Times, The Economist and the publisher of Le Monde are also members of the group.
The group's founders argue that Europe is now in an even more difficult situation than at the time of the publication of Draghi's report.
"In every new technology that will define the coming decades, Europe will pay special attention to being weak," the founders wrote.
