European CRC, HDG prices are rising amid limited supply and improving demand
The prices of cold-rolled and hot-dip galvanized coils increased at the end of August due to limited supply and growing demand.
There is an increase in supply in the cold-rolled roll segment. Market participants explained that previously the presence of significant volumes of relatively cheap imports forced local suppliers to reduce production. Although there are still some previously delivered volumes of imported CRC in ports, once they are exhausted, they will be difficult to replenish, given the stricter protective quota and cost burden associated with the Carbon Border Control Mechanism (CBAM) and anti-dumping duties.
In such conditions, the market's dependence on locally produced CRC will increase, which, in turn, may push enterprises to increase production. However, so far, market sources report that one of the German suppliers will not be able to offer many products for the spot market until the end of the year, as it has distributed production volumes among its regular customers.
In such conditions, other manufacturers raise prices. In Northern Europe, the most recent offers, as well as data on available sales volumes, amounted to 845-850 euros per ton from the factory, compared with 825 euros per ton from the factory in the first half of August.
