Severstal and Air Liquide share experiences in reducing greenhouse gases

PAO Severstal, one of the world's largest vertically integrated
steel and mining companies, together with its strategic partner
for the production of technical gases – Air Liquide – share experience
in the area of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Leading energy experts and
environmental companies Severstal and Air Liquide are involved in science
the conference in Cherepovets, during which they discussed the possibility of reducing the
CO2 emissions at the Cherepovets metallurgical plant.

"Severstal" for several years actively working on the reduction
greenhouse gas emissions. The work is carried out in the enterprise and gives results
through the introduction of more efficient technologies, including manufacturing.
iron and steel (consumption of limestone and dolomite), reduction of the use of
natural gas (the use of coke oven and blast furnace gases), the translation of a number of
energy boilers with solid fuel gazoobraznogo, the rejection of
the open-hearth method of steel production.

Total direct greenhouse gas emissions Severstal in 2018
amounted to 22.1 million tons, while the decrease since 1990 was 57%. Approximately 58
thousand tons of gas will be reduced at the expense of the activities implemented in 2019
year. In particular, those that made it possible to reduce consumption of raw materials for the production of
products. This reconstruction of the node of the solid fuel treatment, installation of
himmelstor charge in the stream of validatation and imaging, introduction
technology of magnetic-gravity separation (MGS) enrichment concentrate
"the Alcon" resource asset of the company "Severstal", supplying raw materials for
the Cherepovets steel mill.

"This is only part of a larger initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,
conducted at the Cherepovets steel mill. We were the first among Russian companies of the industry entered in the
program positive changes Step up and is now actively communicate with
the WSA in selecting the best available technologies. According to expert
assessment, the greatest effect possible from the introduction and development of innovative
technologies, more efficient methods of producing electricity, reducing the
expense ratios in the blast furnace and the steelmaking process, the use of
the raw materials of the best quality. Reduction of CO2 emissions is an important part of the program
development of Severstal. On the one hand, given a strategy for reducing CO2 from us
assess the investors, on the other is a potential raw material for the production of
different materials, therefore, we are actively engaged in the study of global
practices and trends. Our task for today – a systematic search and selection of the most
effective ways of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, in order to first
to choose to implement projects at the Cherepovets steel mill, and then distribute them to other
assets of the company", - commented General Director of "Severstal"
Alexander Shevelev.

According to Alexander Shevelev, the external assessment practices for the reduction of CO2
will allow the company to choose the optimal technical solution to achieve the goal
and to gain experience in the creation of a system for reduction greenhouse gases.
