Severstal improved environmental transparency
PAO Severstal, one of the world's leading vertically integrated
steel and mining companies, entered the top ten rankings
the openness of the mining and metallurgical companies in Russia in the field of
environmental responsibility - project of the world wildlife Fund (WWF)
of Russia and the National Rating Agencies and has improved the position on the
last year. The company also was awarded a special nomination "For the
achievements in the field of biodiversity conservation".
With 2019 rating is conducted within the framework of the project "People with nature", which
WWF-Russia with support from the European Union. Severstal took the sixth place
of the 40 participants. In the previous rating, the company was in seventh place
of the 34 listed companies. The total score amounted to 1.56 from 2 possible
(in 2018 1,28).
Severstal is implementing a systematic programme to reduce the impact on
the environment through large-scale ecological re-equipment of fixed
assets. In 2019, we have significantly increased our investment in environmental
projects. Special attention to the environmental aspects we pay in our most
major investment projects: in particular, coke oven battery No. 11 is based on
a unique for Russia technology of compacting the coal charge. It will be the first
unit of its kind in the country. Specific emissions of pollutants into
the atmosphere from the complex of coke oven battery № 11 will be lower by 20% compared to
total specific emissions of coke oven batteries №№ 7-10," commented
General Director of "Severstal" Alexander Shevelev.
Openness and transparency in the field of environmental responsibility –
the essential element of interaction with stakeholders. "Severstal"
actively informs stakeholders about implemented measures and achieved
results. The annual sustainability report also includes a detailed
information about the environmental impact.

got acquainted with the progress of the project.
