JSC "Uralelektromed" will extract metal from slag
the Top Pyshma (Sverdlovsk oblast)
JSC "Uralelectromed" (metallurgical complex of UMMC) has increased the productivity of the site processing of intermediate products of the chemical and metallurgical shop.
Antimony slags of the branch "Production of alloys of nonferrous metals" (settlement Verkh-neyvinskiy) generated in the course of pyrometallurgical processing of lead cakes, we head to the plot of chemical-metallurgical shop of the main plant (Verkhnyaya Pyshma), which operates in the enterprise in 2017. It is equipped with modern equipment of domestic and foreign production: videochiamare, filter press, Bakov and pumping equipment, electrolysis baths and others oborudovaniem.
In 2019, the plot is additionally equipped with two electrolysis baths, that will allow in 2020 to produce 100 tons of antimony concentrate (antimony roughing).
According to the chief chemical-metallurgical plant of JSC "Uralelektromed" Arsen Musina, the main objective is the development and release of new product - rough antimony, which will then be sent for refining. In addition, this project addresses an environmental issue by recycling wastes and provides the withdrawal of impurities from copper and lead production. "It is planned to process up to 2,000 tons of antimony slag a year," he said.
Note that antimony is used as an alloying additive in the production of alloys. The addition of antimony decreases the surface tension of the melt in the production of alloys based on Nickel and copper, which allows to produce thinner castings. Antimony compounds are used in the manufacture of pottery, enamel, glass and paints. Antimony trioxide is the most important of the antimony compounds and is primarily used in flame retardant compositions.
