Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) topped the annual social efficiency rating of the AK&M agency among Russian metallurgical and mining enterprises. This rating assesses the social efficiency of the largest Russian enterprises and aims to identify the best of them, to show the companies that bring maximum benefit to society with a minimum impact on the environment, and also to find a balance between the burden of enterprises on the environment and their positive impact on society. The rating has been held for the third year, and TMK is annually ranked first in the Metallurgy and Mining category.
As a responsible and environmentally friendly company, TMK implements a corporate policy aimed at creating an environment in the regions of its presence that maximizes comfortable not only for its employees, but also for the people living in them. In total, in the first half of 2020, the company allocated about 630 million rubles to the implementation of various social and environmental programs.
In particular, during the coronavirus pandemic, TMK not only kept salaries in full to all its employees, but also sent more than 200 million rubles for additional payments to labor collectives and provision of priority preventive measures, and also provided substantial support to social and medical institutions in the regions of its presence.
TMK also supported the Stop Coronavirus! the Sinara charitable foundation, having allocated about 100 million rubles for it in order to purchase modern medical equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE) and antiseptics for hospitals in Russian cities where the company's enterprises are located. In total, within the framework of this project, which was also supported by one of the largest Russian diversified holdings, the Sinara Group, 1.5 million medical masks, more than 250 thousand pairs of gloves, 35 thousand protective gowns, more than 2400 liters of antiseptic, dozens of thousands of hats, respirators, face shields, as well as 230 beds and mattresses, almost a hundred recirculators, as well as a box for isolating patients with COVID-19.
In addition, at the initiative of TMK as part of the Sverdlovsk Regional Union of Industrialists and entrepreneurs (SOSPP), headed by Dmitry Pumpyansky, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TMK, a special bank account was created to transfer funds for operational needs to counter coronavirus, including the purchase of rapid tests to detect infection, the purchase of medical equipment, drugs, protective equipment for regional medical institutions and departments of Rospotrebnadzor. TMK's contribution exceeded 28 million rubles; in total, 104 million rubles were received from enterprises in the Sverdlovsk region to the charitable account.
TMK annually devotes significant efforts and funds to ensuring environmental safety at its enterprises and implementing a comprehensive environmental program. In the first half of 2020, more than 50 environmental measures have already been carried out with a total cost of about RUB 300 million.
In addition to technical measures aimed at protecting atmospheric air, water bodies, lands and rational use of natural resources, TMK's environmental agenda includes landscaping, land reclamation, planting trees, cleaning the shorelines of water bodies, as well as various educational activities aimed at increasing the environmental awareness of the company's employees.
In order to maintain a favorable environmental situation in the regions where TMK enterprises operate consistent work is being carried out on landscaping the territories. Thus, the Taganrog Metallurgical Plant (TAGMET), which is part of TMK, planted more than 450 conifers, deciduous and other plants in the first half of 2020. Volzhsky Pipe Plant (VTZ), also part of TMK, is taking part in a regional initiative to create a "green belt" around settlements.
At the end of 2019, TMK updated its environmental policy taking into account the best global practices and initiatives in the field of environmental protection. The new environmental policy of the company is focused on more effective monitoring and management of environmental risks. In particular, the company minimizes the generation of production waste, while increasing the proportion of recycled waste, and also uses natural resources and energy rationally and economically. TMK is fully open to dialogue on environmental impact issues and is ready to discuss them with stakeholders.
