NIKI has installed new intelligent equipment for polymer research
The Research, Design and Technological Cable Institute (NIKI, part of the Cable Alliance Holding, which unites the cable assets of UMMC) has acquired a new device for thermal analysis of polymer materials. The cost of the equipment is more than 3 million rubles.
The differential scanning calorimeter is equipped with an intelligent system, it is characterized by high accuracy, reproducibility and efficiency. The new equipment allows you to analyze the change in the properties of materials under the influence of heat and cold (temperature range - from minus 40 to plus 600 degrees, depending on the type of material, selected parameters and the task).
“Thermal tests are one of the fundamental research methods. They allow you to get more complete information about the processes occurring in materials at different rates of heating and cooling, in isothermal and dynamic temperature conditions. And now for testing, we will not need to use large volumes of materials, only 20 mg of a test sample will be enough. The research period is also significantly reduced - from several years to several weeks ", - said the head of the scientific and technical department of JSC" NIKI Tomsk "Sergei Okunev.
On the new equipment, specialists will study both serial and new materials on the main thermodynamic parameters: melting point, degree of crystallinity, index of oxidative induction. Based on the data obtained, using a kinetic program installed on a computer, it will be possible to determine the stability of the properties of polymers at elevated temperatures and predict their service life.
“Based on the results of research, we can choose from a number of samples the best qualities for the manufacture of high-quality cable products ", - added Sergey Okunev.
The institute plans to purchase another device for thermogravimetric analysis, which registers the change in the mass of the material with a linear increase in temperature. This method will allow you to control a greater number of different polymers used in the production of cable products, and will provide an opportunity to expand the scope of analytical tasks.
It should be noted that JSC "NIKI Tomsk" is the only scientific and technical center of cable industry and has a test center with modern equipment. Its technical capabilities allow it to quickly respond to market changes and customer requests for cable and wire products.
