Uralmekhanobr introduces laser scanning technology for underground objects
OJSC "Uralmekhanobr" is introducing the technology of laser scanning of underground objects. For this purpose, specialized equipment and software were purchased. First of all, the specialists of the design direction of the institute use laser scanning technology in the construction of mining and capital workings of mineral deposits.
- Over the past decade, technologies designed to measure the geometric position of an object in space have advanced far, - said the head of Geotechnology Department of OJSC Uralmekhanobr Ilya Zakharov. - So, the standard means of change have been replaced by mobile scanning stations, which allow performing tens of thousands of measurements per second. This greatly simplifies the work of process engineers, integrating the finished 3D survey of mine workings into GIS programs.
The essence of laser scanning technology is quite simple. A man moves through an underground mine with a scanner in his hands. At this moment, the device is taking pictures of the object. After that, the data is transferred to a computer, automatically converted and the program produces a ready-made model of a mine.
- Using a laser scanner reduces the survey time of an object up to 10 times compared to traditional geodetic equipment, - said an engineer of the geotechnology department "Uralmekhanobr" Anna Vakhrusheva. - As a result of working with the device, we can not only build a 3D model of the mine, but also during the field supervision, analyze the conduct of mining operations, for example, combine the facts of production with the project.
The software uses specialized algorithms that process scanned data, resulting in a 3D point cloud with spatial coordinates and synchronized photographic images.
