Implementation of the ideas of Ural Steel employees shortened the overhaul period of the 2800 rolling mill
Metalloinvest, a leading manufacturer and supplier of iron ore products and hot briquetted iron on the world market, one of the regional producers of high-quality steel, completed the overhaul of the 2800 mill at Ural Steel one day ahead of schedule.
During the repair, a device was installed to quickly raise the upper roll of the DUO stand, which allows you to instantly remove the hot roll and prevent wear of the mill rolls. The planned economic effect from the application of this solution is over 39 million rubles per year.
The early completion of the work made it possible to produce an additional 2.5 thousand tons of rolled metal.
“We were able to achieve these results thanks to the working system of encouraging the initiative of employees and the implementation of their ideas,” said Dmitry Osipov, head of the Ural Steel sheet rolling shop. - Reduction of the repair time was achieved due to the application of the large-block installation method when replacing roller table No. 21 located in front of the DUO stand. It was the idea of the project team of the workshop specialists. The proposal for the installation of a fast roll raising device was developed by our employees within the framework of the Idea Factory Program.
Mill 2800 is a strategically important production unit of the plant, on the stable operation of which compliance with obligations for the supply of rolled metal to consumers depends. Planned overhaul of the mill is carried out once a year. It employs about 400 specialists from the plant's repair departments and contractors. The work is carried out within ten days around the clock.
Thanks to the overhaul, the service life of the equipment was doubled, the likelihood of unplanned downtime was reduced. In the future, the period for carrying out similar works will be reduced by at least 12 hours.
