The awards ceremony for the laureates of the Main Event of the Year in Russian Metallurgy competition took place in Moscow as part of the opening ceremony of the 26th International Industrial Exhibition Metal-Expo'2020. For Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, this is the fifth award in the competition, which has been running since 2011 and celebrates the most important completed projects of Russian metallurgists with a capital investment of 100 million euros or more: earlier MMK projects were recognized as the main events of 2011, 2012, 2017 and 2019. hot rolling began in 2007, thanks to the implementation of this large-scale project, the mill is now equipped with the most modern means of automation, control and monitoring of the rolling process. Also, the circulating water supply cycle was changed, an additional water supply cycle was built for furnaces, main drives of the roughing and finishing groups, part of the old production premises were dismantled. The reconstruction made it possible to significantly expand the size and grade assortment of products manufactured at the mill, produce new pipe steel grades, significantly improve the quality of the products and increase the production capacity of the unit to 5.2 million tons of rolled metal per year. “Hot rolling mill 2500 has been operating at the mill since 1960 can be said to be a production veteran. Now it is a rejuvenated veteran, a unique high-performance unit with an increased production volume of up to 5.2 million tonnes per year and a more complex high-quality assortment, ”commented Viktor Rashnikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC MMK, commented on the launch of the 2500 mill after reconstruction. Now, the reconstruction and launch of the updated mill is officially recognized as the most important event in the Russian metallurgy in 2020.
