MMK received a letter of thanks from the World Steel Association
In a letter addressed to Viktor Rashnikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC MMK, Worldsteel CEO Edwin Basson thanked MMK for “constant support and information that helps Worldsteel in preparing annual reports on carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption”. Worldsteel, the World Steel Association, is a non-profit organization that unites over 85% of the world's steel companies. The Association is a member of the Climate Change Program and pays great attention to monitoring the volume and dynamics of carbon dioxide emissions by companies participating in the Association. Reducing emissions into the atmosphere and reducing the negative impact on the environment is one of the absolute priorities for PJSC MMK. The company is implementing a strategic initiative "Clean City", designed for the period until 2025 and stipulating that the integrated air pollution index in Magnitogorsk, where MMK's main site is located, by the end of this period will decrease to 5 units, which corresponds to the state of "clean city". To reduce the impact on the environment, MMK is introducing the best available technologies, erecting new and reconstructing existing environmental structures. So, in August 2020, a large-scale reconstruction of a complex of gas cleaning units began in the oxygen converter shop of the plant, which will reduce emissions of pollutants through more efficient collection and cleaning of flue gases. The cost of the project will amount to more than 2.5 billion rubles, and upon its completion, the gross dust emissions of the BCC will be reduced by at least 500 tons per year. “At MMK we take a responsible and systematic approach to work aimed at improving the environmental friendliness of production and reducing emissions into the atmosphere. Over the past few years, the company has achieved very serious results and, of course, we do not intend to stop there, ”stressed Pavel Shilyaev, General Director of PJSC MMK. “At the same time, we strictly adhere to the principles of maximum openness and provide colleagues from Worldsteel with the information they are interested in, which, among other things, allows us to track the indicators of carbon dioxide emissions in various regions of the world.”
