Severstal increases the share of new products in its sales portfolio
PJSC Severstal, one of the world's largest vertically integrated steel and mining companies, delivered about 740 thousand tons of new types of products (NWP) to customers in 10 months of 2020. This volume exceeded the company's cumulative result in shipments of CWP in 2018 and 2019. by 20%.
“The formation of a portfolio of innovative products is the undisputed focus of our renewed strategy. The systematic work of our teams to develop new high-margin products, master production technologies, and increase additional such products in the total sales of our industry teams have made it possible to achieve a historic result. Following the results of 10 months of this year, due to their implementation, Severstal was able to additionally earn more than $ 31.5 million, which also exceeds the indicators for the entire 2019. At the same time, the share of innovative products in our portfolio more than doubled and amounted to 8.7% ", - comments Alexander Shevelev, General Director of Severstal.
Among the latest developments of Severstal are solutions for automakers .So, using the developments of promising engineering, the company's experts substantiated the possibility and effectiveness of using a new grade of strength class 600 (K600) for the production of frames for trucks of KAMAZ PJSC. An experienced batch of rolled metal has already been delivered to the client.
K600 is a new generation of microalloyed steels. This grade features improved formability and fatigue properties. In other words, due to its more uniform and uniform cross-sectional structure, K600 better withstands such operations as knocking out holes and flanging. Cracks do not form in their process on the metal, which can cause further material destruction. At the same time, such steels also have a higher endurance limit. These properties can be achieved by a combination of rolling technology, straightening and chemical composition. The use of such steel will improve the manufacturability of metal processing and the performance characteristics of the client's products.
Another example is a development for the passenger car industry. For the company Reault Russia, Severstal employees have mastered and presented ferrite-bainitic hot-rolled hot-dip galvanized steel in thicknesses over two millimeters. Its application allows the automaker to solve the problems of reducing metal consumption while using more durable materials. Such rolled metal is characterized by a combination of technological methods: for its production, hot rolling, which forms the structure, and galvanizing, which is responsible for improving the properties of the product, are equally important.
Ferrite-bainitic hot-rolled hot-dip galvanized steel can be used in the manufacture of spars - vehicle safety elements. It also has high formability properties, in particular, it behaves well when knocking out and flanging holes. Now Severstal is the only company in Russia that has received approval for the supply of such rolled metal products. According to experts, the launch of a new continuous pickling unit No. 4 will make it possible to produce this steel with unique geometric parameters.
The company intends to develop sales of such steel grades for car manufacturers, as well as look for new areas of application for them.
