Metalloinvest launches new steam boilers at Ural Steel
Metalloinvest, a leading manufacturer and supplier of iron ore and hot briquetted iron on the world market, one of the regional producers of high-quality steel, has launched new medium-pressure steam boilers at Ural Steel at a combined heat and power plant (CHP). The Company's investments in the project amounted to over 3 billion rubles.
“Metalloinvest is a vivid example of socially responsible business, a reliable partner of the Orenburg Region for 10 years. The Company's infrastructure projects benefit not only Ural Steel, but the entire city. Since 2011, the partnership between the region, Novotroitsk and Metalloinvest has been built under a trilateral agreement. The Company annually allocates about 300 million rubles for the implementation of partnership activities. In 2020, in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, in addition to this, it provided unprecedented assistance to our health care institutions in the amount of 550 million rubles, - emphasized the Governor of the Orenburg Region Denis Pasler. - The well-being of a third of Novotroitsk families depends on the work of Ural Steel. And the large-scale project of modernization of the combined heat and power plant is a guarantee of stable heat supply throughout the city. "
“Our investment projects are aimed at introducing advanced technological solutions and reducing the burden on the environment,” said Nazim Efendiev, CEO of Metalloinvest. “The launch of medium-pressure boilers increases the energy efficiency of Ural Steel production and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.”
The modernization of the Ural Steel CHPP creates a powerful energy complex with a total capacity of 440 tons of steam per hour. The boilers operate on natural gas, coke oven gas and blast furnace gas, each generating up to 144 Gcal per hour. The volume of heat energy production has doubled, the needs of the plant's divisions for steam of the required quality are met. Modern units have a high efficiency, reduce maintenance costs and increase environmental friendliness.
The project of the new boiler house included the launch of the main control room, a chemical laboratory, an electrical section and a section of an automated process control system. Installation of new pumping equipment, live steam pipelines, feed and treated water, main steam pipelines and gas pipelines was carried out.
Chemical water treatment plant No. 3 was reconstructed, a unique automated unit for the production of purified water was installed. The electrical equipment of the communication transformer No. 2 was replaced. The boilers are fully automated and controlled by one person using a computer. Employees of the CHPP received additional training to effectively work with new units.
“In accordance with the investment program of Metalloinvest for the modernization of the production facilities of Ural Steel, the reconstruction of the CHP equipment began in July 2018,” said Ildar Iskakov, Managing Director of Ural Steel. - The newest boilers with high efficiency were installed in a record two years. With the boilers reaching their design capacity, the quality of energy and heat supply to the facilities of the plant and the city will not only improve, but also the reliability of the plant's energy capacities will increase. "
At the next stage of the CHPP renovation, the design and construction of a medium-pressure turbine generator with a capacity of up to 60 megawatts will be planned, which will work in conjunction with new boilers. In the future, it is planned to successively replace five high-pressure boilers, turbine generators and air compressors.
