SUMZ has put into operation the system of collection, cleaning and evacuation of aspiration gases "Aspeks"

Revda (Sverdlovsk region)

June 25, on the 79th birthday of OJSC "Sredneuralsky copper smelting plant" (an enterprise of the metallurgical complex of UMMC) put into operation the system of collection, purification and evacuation of aspiration gases "Aspeks" in the converter department of the copper-smelting shop. Aspiration gases are diluted gases, the physicochemical parameters of which do not allow them to be processed in the sulfuric acid workshop. They are formed at the moments of loading /unloading the converter, its start-up and shutdown. The new modern system will reduce to a minimum gas contamination at workplaces and collect fugitive (under-lamp) emissions in the copper smelter. SUMZ has allocated about 300 million rubles for the implementation of the Aspex system.

- Since 2011, since the regional government and the Sredneuralsk copper smelter have been working under the agreement, a long way has been passed in improving the environmental situation, - said First Deputy Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Alexey Orlov. - The company annually invests serious financial resources in environmental projects. Today's launch of the installation significantly improves the working conditions of people.

The collection and cleaning technology was developed by Aspex Machine-Building Company (Moscow). The partner company carried out design work, carried out the selection of equipment and designed non-standard equipment. The Aspex system includes four exhaust hoods, four heat exchangers, a gas duct system, three bag filters, four smoke exhausters, a 50-meter discharge pipe, a transformer and a compressor station. All equipment meets high standards of reliability and energy efficiency. In 2019, exhaust hoods were installed on all four converters, capturing aspiration gases, which are then cleaned of dust in bag filters. Aspeks-MK specialists performed commissioning works, landscaped the territory.

- I would like to express my gratitude to the builders, the company's management and everyone who implemented this project, which solves the most difficult task. The technology put into operation today is one of the most modern in the world for such production. In general, we can state that the Sredneuralsk copper smelting plant consistently and professionally solves the environmental problems facing the enterprise, - emphasized UMMC General Director Andrey Kozitsyn.

During the commissioning of the Aspex system, control was carried out efficiency.

“We are introducing a unique facility that will reduce dust content in the working area of metallurgists by 99.7% and the concentration of sulfurous anhydride by 14 times,” said Bagir Abdulazizov, director of Sredneuralsky Copper Smelting Plant.

Reference: Sredneuralskiy copper smelter is one of the largest chemical and metallurgical complexes in the Middle Urals. SUMZ was put into operation on June 25, 1940. Main production: copper smelting shop, sulfuric acid shop, processing plant. Main types of products: blister copper, sulfuric acid, copper concentrate.
