MMK and CROC launched a new modular data center

MMK's modular data center is a specialized building for hosting server and network equipment with an area of 200 sq. m, designed for 36 racks with a total IT load of 208 kW. This is enough to accommodate at least 400 units of modern high-performance data storage and processing equipment. The system of fiber-optic cables will provide data transfer rates up to 100 gigabits per second, which will make it possible to organize access channels to data center resources with maximum bandwidth. The center will allow to cover the needs of PJSC MMK in its own computing power for the coming years.

The main prerequisite for the construction of the new center was the continuous growth in the volume of processed information. This growth is directly related to the dynamics of the development of the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, an increase in the number and complexity of projects in the field of automation and digitalization, as well as increased requirements for ensuring fault tolerance and availability of information resources. In particular, it is planned to place IT equipment in the modular data center for projects to create a unified MES system for PJSC MMK and corporate data management systems, hardware platforms for projects using industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies, positioning personnel, machines, etc. mechanisms in hazardous areas, machine vision, mathematical modeling, advanced analytics and others.

“It was important for us to create a data center that fully corresponds to the leading positions of MMK among Russian ferrous metallurgy enterprises. With its help, we plan to improve the reliability of the enterprise management information systems, consolidate computing power and create an infrastructure basis for implementing the digitalization strategy of PJSC MMK, - commented the launch of the new data center, Chief Information Technology Officer of PJSC MMK, Director of LLC MMK-Informservice "Vadim Feoktistov.

" The construction of the modular data center was implemented as part of the comprehensive cooperation between MMK and CROC. The structure meets the urgent task of maintaining business continuity and, which is important, can become one of the elements of the full-scale implementation of the digital development program of the enterprise, "said the Deputy General Director, Director for work with enterprises of the mining and metallurgical complex of the IT company" KROK " Oleg Terekhov.

CROC specialists carried out design and survey work, prepared a construction site and provided it with the necessary communications. The peculiarity of the project is that the assembly of the modules, including the installation of key equipment, was almost completely carried out in Samara at the manufacturer's site. Then the modules were delivered to Magnitogorsk. This approach made it possible to significantly reduce the time and scope of work at the MMK site.

BIM technologies were used to ensure high accuracy of assembly of the modular structure. The modular design allows flexible scalability by consistently expanding the number of additional rack modules. Other implemented technical solutions include an air conditioning system supporting a given humidity level in machine rooms and a dispatching system.
