Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant started overhaul of the blast furnace

The Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (PJSC Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant, part of the Mechel Group) has shut down one of the three blast furnaces for overhaul. The repair will ensure reliable and efficient operation of the unit in accordance with environmental requirements. During the overhaul, equipment will be installed on the furnace to reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

Blast-furnace production fully supplies the enterprise with pig iron, smelting about 4 million tons of metal per year. The work will be completed by the end of 2019.

During the renovation, the furnace will actually be rebuilt. The blast furnace casing and refractory lining will be completely renewed. Instead of the old equipment, new equipment will be installed, including the complete renovation of the blast furnace cooling system. The working conditions of the blast-furnace shop personnel will be significantly improved through the introduction of an automation system. In this case, mainly Russian materials will be used. All work will be performed by the contractor.

“During the overhaul of the blast furnace, we will carry out preparatory work for the installation of an aspiration system, which will further reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere by 42 tons per year, as well as install a modern automated system for measuring technological parameters, ”said Dmitry Krapivin, deputy head of the blast furnace shop.
