Air Liquide and PJSC Severstal, one of the leaders in the steel market, have signed a new long-term oxygen supply contract for the Cherepovets Steel Works in Russia. Air Liquide will design and build a new air separation unit at the Cherepovets Steel Mill, one of the world's most competitive steel production sites. The new plant will produce 1000 tons of oxygen per day. This unit will be the fourth VRU installed by Air Liquide in Cherepovets.
The unit is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2023. The project will be managed by Air Liquide Severstal, a joint venture founded in 2005 by Air Liquide (75% stake) and PJSC Severstal (25% stake). The total volume of oxygen produced by Air Liquide at this site will exceed 8,000 tons per day and will make the site the largest oxygen production facility in continental Europe.
The new ASP will significantly increase energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. As part of the same agreement, the companies also agreed to continue to reduce CO2 emissions from oxygen production, which is in line with Air Liquide's commitments to climate protection and sustainable development.
