MMK Metalurji hot complex in Iskenderun has officially resumed operations and started to reach its design capacity
At the moment, the production, which was stopped in 2012 due to unfavorable economic conditions in the Turkish market, has fully completed hot tests of technological equipment. The electric steelmaking shop with a casting and rolling module, intended for the production of hot-rolled coils, has resumed its work and is increasing production.
According to Denis Kvasov, Director of MMK Metalurji, “during the visit of the General Director of PJSC MMK, another important event was noted. Two hot-dip galvanizing plants at MMK Metalurji's sites in Iskenderun and Istanbul set another record for the monthly production of hot-dip galvanized steel, as in Iskenderun the record level was 45,219 thousand tons, and at the site in Istanbul - 41,221 thousand tons. In total, by the end of July, the company produced 86.440 thousand tons of premium finished products. The previous record was recorded in January of this year, when the corresponding production volume amounted to 78.613 thousand tons of hot-dip galvanized steel. "
PJSC MMK's General Director Pavel Shilyaev noted: reaching full capacity marks the end of an important milestone in the company's efforts to re-establish full-scale production at our Turkish facility. In less than a month of operation of the hot section in Iskenderun, 5.8 thousand tons of rolled products were produced. These products have already proven their high quality and were used in the July production, which demonstrated a record monthly result of over 86 thousand tons of hot-dip galvanized steel. This is an excellent indicator that instills well-grounded optimism in the prospects for the further effective development of the Turkish asset of the MMK Group. "
The company notes that the launch of an electric steel-making shop with a casting and rolling module at the MMK Metalurji industrial site in Iskenderun implies a gradual increase in production volumes. In total, it is planned to produce 200-260 thousand tons of hot-rolled steel in 2021, reaching its full design capacity in 2022.
