Severstal improves environmental friendliness and safety of metal pickling equipment
The Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant (CherMK, part of the Severstal-Russian Steel division) reconstructed nine tanks for spent acid on the site of the metal pickling shop.
The tanks of the solution warehouse of the hydrochloric acid regeneration unit (URSK) are designed for accumulation and supply regenerate to continuous pickling units No. 3 and No. 4, as well as receiving waste pickling solution from them. The gummed metal containers were replaced with fiberglass ones with a special coating.
“After assembly, new containers are treated with a special chemical resistant composition. Such a storage is more reliable, since fiberglass does not react with an acidic solution, which guarantees safety and environmental friendliness of operation. We strive to support not only the main production facilities, but also ancillary equipment. The cost of this investment project amounted to 57 million rubles, "commented Evgeny Vinogradov, General Director of the Severstal Russian Steel Division and the company's resource assets.
The service life of fiberglass containers with a protective coating is 20 years. In 2022, it is planned to replace the remaining six tanks from the old park.
