Mechel will supply a large batch of tram rails for the Moscow Metro

Chelyabinsk, Russia - September 21, 2021 - Mechel PAO (MOEX: MTLR, NYSE: MTL) , a leading Russian mining and metallurgical company, announces that it has won a tender for the supply of tram rails to the Moscow Metro. Delivery of products is planned from September.

In total, more than 5 thousand tons of RT62-type rail products will be shipped under the contract. The products of the universal rail and structural mill (URBS) of the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Combine will be used for the reconstruction of tram lines, as well as for the construction of new tram lines in the metropolitan metropolis.

The RT62 rails began to be produced at the URBS in 2021. A distinctive feature of the RT62 rails is an additional chute designed for tram wheels. For the development of this profile at another enterprise of the Mechel Group - the Uralskaya Kuznitsa plant - roller fittings were manufactured. In the course of pilot rolling, products were obtained that fully comply with the requirements of GOST R 55941-2014. During the final tests, the tram rails were checked for all characteristics: chemical composition of steel, mechanical properties, surface qualities, profile and straightness. The products have successfully passed acceptance tests, during which the excellent quality was confirmed, significantly exceeding the standard requirements. RT62 rails have successfully passed the certification procedure.

“Last year, ChMK supplied 25 thousand tons of main rails for the construction and repair of the Moscow metro. We are glad that in 2021 our fruitful cooperation has expanded with a new type of product. We view the urban transport infrastructure as a promising segment of rail sales, ”said Andrey Ponomarev, General Director of Mechel-Steel Management Company.

ChMK's rail products are sold both in Russia and in the countries of near and far abroad. The main consumers are Russian Railways enterprises, national railways in the post-Soviet countries, subways and urban transport systems. Other consumers of rails are industrial holdings and port terminals.
