The effectiveness of fire retardant paint

A new type of protection of building materials from the negative effects of high temperatures has appeared relatively recently. Relatively low consumption, which provides fire-retardant paint class 1 , allows you to achieve normal cable performance. Provide an additional layer of protection, in addition to the regular insulating shell.

Scope of application of fire retardant paint

There is a fairly large variety of compositions that can be applied to a variety of surfaces. Coming into contact with the surface, they create an additional layer that can partially reflect the heat and prevent the destruction of materials. The main areas of application should be highlighted:

  • Protection of the steel supporting frame of industrial and warehouse premises.
  • Additional protection of trusses and beams in closed and open structures.
  • Application of the composition on wooden structures located inside the building.
  • The treatment of escape routes for the retreat of people is especially important.
  • Applying cable boxes and ventilation ducts to the internal surfaces.

Important: almost any surface or transit channel for electrical communications needs additional protection during a fire. The paint will allow you to resist the negative effects of high temperatures much longer. Reduce damage and minimize the rate of fire spread.

Feature of applying paint

Most traditional compositions must be applied in several layers. Only the best and most advanced fire retardant paints provide sufficient protection in a single coat. The standard algorithm for applying protection is as follows:

  1. preparation of the surface, cleaning it from contamination;
  2. mandatory use of primer as a preliminary layer;
  3. direct painting protective composition;
  4. checking the result, if necessary, applying a second layer.

If a fire occurs in a room or in a technological channel, the paint swells and increases in volume several tens of times. The insulating layer is the reason for the protection of structures from fire. And in some cases, in mines, it completely stops the fire, eliminating the fire.
