The losses of rolled metal in the warehouse are not only due to corrosion. Mixed batches, lost markings, deformed workpieces and unrecorded residues increase the picking time and make it difficult to transfer the material to production. For the warehouse manager, the task of storage is to preserve the condition of the metal, its identification and availability by the appointed date.

Split the streams before placing the batch

The placement scheme is determined by the nomenclature, packaging and the order of issue. Sheet, profile pipe, long and shaped rolled products should not be combined into one zone just to save space. Differences in length, weight, and gripping methods affect equipment, supports, and passageways. Separate locations are provided for accepted materials, products with unreturned comments, and returns from the workshop.

Batches with the same standard size but different grades of steel or quality requirements are kept separately. In the warehouse system, the address is associated with the batch and the quality document, not just with the item name. When the bundle is divided, the identification is transferred to new storage locations. Otherwise, the tag remains on one package, and the origin of the remaining blanks has to be restored from memory.

Take into account moisture and the condition of the supports

Contact with a wet substrate and accumulation of water between the products create conditions for corrosion. Therefore, the metal is placed on prepared supports, taking into account the manufacturer's requirements and the accepted storage scheme. The arrangement of the supports is chosen according to the length and rigidity of the products. An arbitrary increase in the spans between them can lead to deflection and permanent deformation, especially with multilayer placement.

In an open area, protection from precipitation should be combined with water drainage and the possibility of drying. A tightly wrapped wet pack does not become dry: water can remain inside the shelter for a long time. For products with coatings, the packaging and storage conditions of the manufacturer are additionally taken into account. Surface coating on ordinary steel and damage to the protective coating require different solutions for subsequent use.

Coordinate storage conditions with delivery

Prior to ordering, the supplier transmits the warehouse restrictions to the supplier: the permissible length of products, available equipment, packaging and labeling requirements. The nomenclature for the formation of the application can be checked in the catalog pkf-m.ru . The packaging conditions and the actual package contents of the batch are agreed upon separately. This reduces the likelihood that an incoming package will have to be disassembled in an unprepared area.

Short-term storage and long-term storage may require different protective measures. The future operation is also important: welding, painting,
