The UN Secretary General in Davos stated that without reductions in greenhouse gas emissions "we are doomed"
If the largest producers of emissions would reduce greenhouse gas emissions, we are doomed. This was stated by UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres, speaking at the world economic forum in Davos, Switzerland.
According to him, many developing countries and the European Union have committed themselves to achieve by mid-century "carbon neutrality", however, the largest producers of emissions have been slow so far with that decision. He urged all States to take action to stop global warming.
As said antónio Guterres, the governments have the necessary leverage to "greening" the world economy, for example, one such measure could be the reduction of subsidies for fossil fuel extraction. "As a taxpayer, I can't accept the fact that my taxes go to strengthening hurricanes, coral bleaching and melting of glaciers," - said the UN Secretary General.
, antónio Guterres, believes climate change is the main problem of modernity and convinced that she is a threat to our planet and prevents development. Speaking in Davos, he once again called on the private sector to think about the environmental implications when implementing any project. The UN chief recalled that more and more financial institutions pay attention to it, taking the decision to invest.
among the supporters of the UN in the fight against climate change - urban residents, voters, young people and other population groups.
"I hope we will be able to mobilize the private sector and the authorities to change the methods of food production and management of economies, and approaches to the management of transport infrastructure and urban planning", - said the UN Secretary-General.
