The air compressor must provide the pressure necessary for stable operation of the connected equipment. If the unit has been running for a long time but does not reach the setpoint, the pressure drops under load, or the receiver fills more slowly than usual, this may indicate a malfunction or incorrect system configuration.
The reason is not always the breakdown of the compressor itself. In production, pressure drops are often associated with air leaks, filter contamination, excessive consumption of pneumatic equipment, or insufficient pipeline diameter. To restore the normal operation of the installation, it is important to consistently check the main components and determine where losses occur.
Why is the compressor not gaining pressure to the desired value?
First of all, it is necessary to compare the actual pressure with the equipment settings and the requirements of compressed air consumers. If the compressor is working properly, but cannot provide the set level, there are several possible reasons.
One of the common problems is that the installation performance is insufficient for current consumption. For example, the compressor is designed to work with several pneumatic tools, but equipment with high air consumption is additionally connected to the system. As a result, the consumption exceeds the volume of compressed air that the plant is capable of producing in a certain amount of time.
Another reason is leaks in the pneumatic network. Air can escape through leaky connections, damaged hoses, worn seals, faulty valves and shut-off valves. Even small leaks with constant operation can significantly increase the load on the compressor.
You should also check the settings of the pressure switch or the electronic control system. If the upper limit is set below the required value, the compressor will shut down earlier than required by the production process. However, you cannot adjust the settings yourself without checking the permissible pressure of the equipment. This can overload individual system elements and pose a security risk.
What to do if the compressor is running, but the pressure is not rising
If the engine is running and the pressure increases too slowly or does not change at all, the diagnosis should begin with simple and safe checks. First, you need to make sure that the installation is operating normally, and the readings of the pressure gauge correspond to reality.
It should be checked whether there are obvious leaks, whether the drain valve of the receiver is open and whether the shut-off devices are working correctly. If filters are installed in the system, a dehumidifier
