Bright flashes of light that occur during welding can severely damage the eyes of the welder. To prevent this from happening, the specialist uses special protection. Properly selected welder mask does not interfere with work at all , and at the same time helps protect sensitive eyes from bright light. But, not all products on the market meet the required characteristics.
The most important characteristics
Protective properties are formed through the use of high-quality materials in the manufacture of the mask. The product must comply with either international standards or internal GOST. Only in this case it will not be a waste of money spent. The most important criteria should be highlighted:
- Refractory polymer or fiberboard as a base is advantageous.
- The size of the viewing window ranges from 90x40 to 110x90 mm.
- The color filter can have several degrees of darkening, depending on the brightness of the flash.
The last selection factors are one of the key ones. Do not neglect the degree of shading and the ability to absorb excessive light flux. The greater the number of amperes used to produce a welding arc, the darker the viewing filter should be.
Other important selection options
A properly designed and sized welder's mask is securely attached to the head, but at the same time, with a simple movement of the hand, it can be both open and closed. The worker does not need to remove gloves or work gloves for this purpose. Other selection options should be added:
- ability to protect against physical damage;
- the ability to adjust over a wide range;
- permissibility of replacing the viewing shaded glass;
- The mask can be stored in a variety of conditions.
Since welding almost never takes place under ideal conditions, the mask should not deteriorate from periodic physical exertion on its base. The glass resists scuffs and scratches. The weight of even the most durable and protected model should not exceed 700 grams. Only in this case, the mask can be considered high-quality protection for everyday work.
