How to apply to a UK university
Higher education in the UK is distinguished by the quality and wide range of knowledge that each student receives.
In each region of the United Kingdom, the conditions for admission, training and cost are slightly different. For example, in Scotland, there are 4 years of undergraduate studies, and in Northern Ireland, children go to primary school from the age of 4.
One way or another, the conditions for admission are similar - for admission to universities in England a recognized high school diploma (IB, A-level or alternatively a preparatory year) and a certificate confirming knowledge of English at the required level (IELTS UKVI) are required. The exceptions are foreigners who were transferred by transfer immediately to the first year - but this is very rare.
Admission Programs
The final stage of compulsory secondary education lasts from 14 to 16 years. It includes grades 10-12. The fourth key stage is the most common period when students take national assessment tests, after which they take the GCSE and gain the necessary knowledge for admission. After that, there may be (depending on the region) a preparatory course, that is, the 13th year of study under the program.
A child can prepare for admission to a higher education institution using a program such as A-level or IB. The first refers to a two-year course, with an in-depth study of three subjects to choose from. It starts at the age of 16 and allows you to enter one of the most prestigious universities in 2 years.
International Baccalaureate includes 6 subjects, as well as the CAS test (creativity, performance and willingness to serve the community). The IB diploma is quoted all over the world.
If you decide to enroll with the Foundation after finishing grade 11, this is an easy way to improve your English in a few trimesters and gain basic knowledge in subjects that are relevant to the future student. You can also complete the Diploma program after the first year of a Ukrainian university (not available everywhere).
Applicants from countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland must apply for a student visa to study in the UK. It is better to choose a program in advance, as the paperwork for one of them lasts from two to four weeks.
